From the beginning of your journey on the road of physical, technical or mental training, you will often encounter periods during which you make no progress and become frustrated. What you may not realise at such times is that you are experiencing what everyone else experience as well: a place called plateau.
Plateaus in sports are simply a natural part of the process of achieving. In fact, you need to know that most worthwhile learning happens during these periods of plateau.Just for this reason, love and embrace this stage of improvement. Because improvements are really happening. Accept that this time is essential. A time when body and mind catch up to your new, emerging level of performance. It provides opportunities for deeper learning and self-knowledge and mastery. Most of us fail to realise how important are these plateaus.
So many athletes, parents and coaches become frustrated and enter in a fight against times of plateau, feeling that they are stagnating and not improving at all – sometimes questioning if they will continue or not in their sport. This is counterproductive. The plateau stage is a natural way of perfecting what you have recently learned.
Accept your plateaus as important stages of development during which your body is adjusting to new level of excellence never reached before.
